The denomination of origin Montsant origins a semicircle between Ebro River and its surrounded by the D.O Priorat.
Its extension is very rough; to the north are the “serra de la Llena” and the mountain of montsant, separated by Montsant River that is united by the east with the mountains of Prades. The precostal mountain range the mountain d’ argentera and the bulks of Colldejou and Llaberia. To the west is the mountain range of Figuera.
The roughness areas are next to Montsant River till the south where the D.O is opened towards Ebro River.
The land is mainly tertiary stony calcarea quaternaries alluvium I with altitudes that go from 200m to 700m on the level of the sea.
The climate is Mediterranean with continental influence, cold with great resistances between the diurnal and nocturnal temperatures. The annual average of maximum temperatures does not surpass 20 degrees and the average of minimum temperatures is the 7 degrees.
The precipitations are of between 400mm and 500mm. Rain concentrates are in autumn and in spring and the dry period are the months of July and August.
The origin of the wine activity of the area ties to the time of the Romans although it seems to be that the stocks already were cultivated previously by the seated Greek colonies to the north of the Catalan coast.
